A large pastel composition of considerable narrative complexity — Sidney's most explicitly scene-like abstract work. The composition contains multiple visual registers operating simultaneously: at upper left, a large biomorphic form in gray with internal eye-like elements; at center, a sweeping yellow zigzag line that cuts across the composition like a lightning bolt or a road; and at the lower center and right, a collection of forms that together read as a vehicle or cart — wheels, axles, a container — rendered in blue, green, and gray with the specificity of observed machinery.
The cart or vehicle at the bottom is the most unexpected element in the collection — Sidney has never painted machinery or mechanical objects before, and this form, while abstracted, carries the logic of a real thing: wheels that could roll, a body that could carry cargo, axles connecting wheel to wheel. A row of small dots along a horizontal line at the bottom — evenly spaced, like rivets or bolts — reinforces the mechanical register.
Above the vehicle, the composition is more freely abstract: the yellow zigzag energy, the large gray form at upper left with its internal marks, a tented or peaked form at upper right in gray-green. Small scattered elements throughout — blue squares, red marks, green lines — populate the field.
The title names the synthesis: this is a vehicle encountered in a dream, where the logic of machines and the logic of abstract forms coexist without contradiction. The question of where this vehicle is going, and what it carries, is left entirely open.
