A large-format still life dominated by deep pink watercolor — the most color-saturated of the still life works, the entire composition immersed in a warm pink-rose field. On a table surface in the lower portion, a drinking glass and a larger decorative bottle or decanter are placed; behind them a framed element on the wall — a mirror or picture — reflects or contains a teal-blue-grey zone. The bottle at the right receives a yellow-orange wash that gives it warmth within the prevailing pink. A second small glass at the left is barely indicated. A tall narrow element at the upper right is a vertical shadow or a curtain.
The pink immersion — the same deep rose that forms the ground of Work 1658's portrait — gives this still life a quality of interior glow, as if the room itself were lit with warm rose light rather than neutral daylight. The objects within this light field are given their individual identities — the glass's transparency, the bottle's amber warmth, the framed element's cooler blue reflection — but all filtered through the rose atmosphere.
Among all the still life works in the collection — the small signed ink still life (1480), the object studies on sanguine (1531), the candles and plant miniatures (1580, 1581), the oil painting (1670) — this large-format pink still life is the most atmospherically complete. The objects are embedded in a color environment rather than set against a neutral ground, the still life as a world with its own light.
