A seated back view in blue chalk — the figure seated on a surface with the legs hanging down and to the right, the back presented as a rounded, full form, the head in three-quarter view at the upper left with a brief profile indication and loose hair. The body has a fuller, more volumetric quality than most blue chalk figures in the portfolio: the back's breadth, the buttock's roundness on the seat surface, the thighs' weight as they hang — all described with more interior marks than the characteristic single-contour approach. Brief parallel marks at the lower back and along the left side give the figure its tonal depth.
The blue chalk here is slightly more saturated than in the ghost-blue of Work 1435, closer to the confident blue of Work 1419's profile figure. The seated position creates a composition different from the standing and reclining blue chalk works: the figure's weight distributed on the seat, the hanging legs creating a right-side diagonal in the lower composition, the upper back's rounded form dominating the upper zone. The hands are visible at the figure's left side, briefly described with several lines.
The 12.5 by 19 format returns the blue chalk figure to the third portfolio's standard sheet after the 9.5 by 25 narrow strips of Works 1464 and 1468. The wider format suits the seated figure's lateral spread: the hanging legs extending to the right, the head tilting slightly left, the body's weight settling into the seat's implied support. Among the blue chalk figures, this is the most fully described in terms of the body's three-dimensionality — the tonal marks on the back and the leg shadows giving it volume rather than silhouette.
